Air Traffic Management

ATM

CS has been contributing to the development of the French air traffic control system for many years. This work has been carried out under contracts awarded by the air navigation services department DSNA (Direction des Services de la Navigation Aérienne), supervised by the French Ministry of Transport.

CS activities have covered the fields of research, assistance with client project management and fixed-price prime contractorship for application implementation.

The wide range of technical missions conducted includes the following in particular:

Since 2000, CS has been involved in the Franco-Italian CoFlight project, conducted by DSNA, to design and build a new flight plan system.

The flight plan processing system is an extremely critical component of the air traffic control system: it co-ordinates radar information, flight requests and forecasts with the controllers' interface station 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, in each of the five route control centres.

After taking part in preliminary studies, a CS expert team helped DTI to define all the functional requirements expected of the new flight plan processing system and to select the consortium to carry out the work. CS is now in charge of preparing convergence with the old system: upward compatibility of the old and new systems, definition of the switchover protocol, etc.

Since 2002, CS has been a prime contractor for the maintenance and upgrading of all aeronautical information management applications. These applications enable civil aviation specialists to manage notices to airmen (NOTAM), aeronautical information publications (AIP) describing airfields and airways, etc., and the submission of air plans by pilots, etc.

These items represent approximately a dozen applications using various technologies for which CS has set up a flexible and efficient organisation ensuring optimal responsiveness for DSNA. On average, it supplies one new version a year for each of these applications.

Participation in these projects calls for great expertise in the computer technologies used and specific functional knowledge in the field of air traffic control based on long and continually updated experience.
