• aero-structures and engine components non-specifc design advanced calculations studies: aerodynamics, fluid-structure interaction (aeroelasticity…), electromagnetism,thermal analysis, aerotherm dynamics…
• development of computational methods for the high performance simulation of multidisciplinary engineering problems.
• CS continuously specializes in distributed computing and massively parallel processing, with a specialized activity fully dedicated to software optimization (recent example: the optimization of the ONERA aerodynamics software elsA for AIRBUS).
• Current CS research emphasis is on reduced-order modeling, multi-scale approximation methods, global multidisciplinary optimisation methods, imaging, uncertainty quantification and various large-scale applications in aerospace (like large-scale aerodynamics and aeroacoustics simulations).

A HPC CENTER IN PAU
Dedicated to aeronautical applications
CS in collaboration with Turbomeca and the Pau City Administration is currently working on the opening of a High Performance Computing Center located in Pau. This center will handle and operate the OSMOSES platform (future simulation platform dedicated to aeronautical applications within the framework of the MOSART research program conducted by the Aerospace Valley Competitive Cluster).

Recent efforts have focused on and continue to address new process strategic disciplines for aeronautical industry like:

• Simulation Lifecycle Management (SLM)
• Verification & Validation methods
• CAD-CAE links
• Virtual testing

With the Airbus Virtual Aircraft Project, CS is particularly involved in the following disciplines and tasks:

• VIRTUAL AIRCRAFT: establishing the Virtual Aircraft Functional Architecture (VAFA)
  The Virtual aircraft is a mean to simulate a/c assembly (physical design) and a/c operations (functional design) of the “to-be” aircraft before its actual integration in order to deliver in a shortest time a competitive, operable, operational and “good for certification” and “production defi nition” file.
• CAD-CAE LINKS: setting virtual aircraft strategic End-to-End processes
  CCL objective is to reduce modeling lead time and labour intensive cost of the modeling process.
• VIRTUAL TESTING: setting Virtual Testing Generic processes
  To develop a set of modeling & simulation means to demonstrate:
  • the design is compliant with certifi cation requirements;
  • also used for early assessment of the design.
