07.16.2009: Successful opening of Electronic Free-Flow Tolling on Golden Ears Bridge in Vancouver - Canada

With the opening of the free-flow tolling system for revenue collection in Vancouver on July 16, 2009, CS, the only integrator of these types of systems in France, once more demonstrates its know-how and technological leadership in the field of intelligent transport systems.

The Golden Ears Bridge connects two growing residential and industrial zones. Equipped with a free-flow tolling system that uses either a vehicle’s transponder or its license plate number (video tolling) to charge for payment, it provides a significant reduction in transit time to the travelling public.

The contract for the supply and operation of this system for a 5 to 8 year period was awarded in June 2006 to V-Flow, a consortium composed of Egis Projects (Egis Group), Sanef and InTranS (US subsidiary of CS), by the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority (“TransLink”).

CS, through its US subsidiary (InTranS), designed and supplied the turnkey free-flow system, and will perform its maintenance. This system, capable of processing 50 million transactions a year, includes:

• a set of gantries in each direction equipped with state-of-the-art technologies provides for the highly accurate detection of transponders in vehicles, the recording of license plate numbers and the classification of vehicles for the calculation of fares; and

• a fully integrated back office system which invoices users, manages transactions and payments, sale management (CRM, Website, selling points), and the follow-up of outstanding payments.

This project already considered a great success by both TransLink and the residents of Vancouver, is anticipated to accommodate an opening traffic volume of 35,000 vehicles a day.

“After the opening of the toll free-flow systems on South Bay Expressway in San Diego (CA) in 2007 and on Dublin’s Ring Road (M50) in Ireland in 2008, CS continues to establish its technological leadership, and further positions itself as a major player for prospective projects, as for instance the Truck Charging System in France”, declares Eric Blanc-Garin, CS Chief Executive Officer.
