CS, in association with Roschi Rohde & Schwarz, Rohde & Schwarz's subsidiary in Switzerland, provides an Approach and En-route Air Control Centre in Dübendorf with a secured management system for ground-to-air Radio Voice Communication (VCCS). The contract includes the provision by CS of an operational system with 24 operator positions as well as a training and maintenance system. On site acceptance was signed in November 2008.

This emergency system takes over the main radio system in case of failure. It must therefore be completely separate from the main system used between operators and aircrafts. The ultimate emergency function allows each operator position to maintain its connection with its main radio frequency in case of failure of the emergency system.

The system is based on CS' SAF3000 product range. CS' SAF3000 is itself based on an innovative IP architecture which guarantees flexibility of voice exchanges between operators and aircrafts, while ensuring quality and high reliability.

This system is the most relevant answer to the operational stakes of air traffic controllers due to:

• an HMI which duplicates that of the main system so as to facilitate controller training,
• a multi-centre channel management with best signal selection and transmission towards several radio sites, in all transparency for the controllers,
• an integrated and compact operator position based on 6,4 inches touch input device.

For over 30 years, CS has been innovating in the communication field applied to civil and military air operations. Pioneer in its use of IP architectures in this field, CS has conceived a system which brings responsiveness, flexibility and adaptability in the running of air operations.
Deployed for the French Air Defense operation centres, the system has been officially recognized by the NATO countries.

“ First important stage in the implementation of trans-border communications and of a future Unique European Sky (SESAR program), CS, pioneer in its use of Voice over IP, has already carried out its alternative communication systems, in particular within its partnership with Rohde & Schwarz for Belgocontrol, the Belgium agency for air traffic safety. Skyguide is the second European company in charge of air traffic services which chose our SAF3000 solution, with a short term objective of replicating a similar communication system for other European air traffic control centres.”, declares CS Chief Executive Officer, Eric Blanc-Garin.

* Mandated by the Swiss Confederation, Skyguide manages air traffic and safety of one of the busiest and most complex air space in Europe. Since 2001 The mandate includes civilian and military flights - a first in European aeronautics.
